Works like a charm...

Review by Cassiopeia, 2010-08-30

This thing absolutely works without a problem. It's great for camping or when you don't want to use a port a potty. I have yet to try it in the car, which is when I really need something (stuck in traffic...unable to pee..nightmare!) but I will say I'm sure it won't work unless I'm somewhat standing. You need definite gravity to avoid a mess. Still, I think I could manage it in the passenger's seat semi-standing. I'll let you know if it works!

Won't travel without it

Review by trekker gal, 2010-08-18

Wish I had known about this a long time ago. This is a great product. It is easy to use, although you need to practice with it before you travel with it. The depository (the pink part) is large enough to handle large quantity of fluid. The other versions of this are way too small and you end up over filling them if your stream is fast. Don't worry about the funnel smelling bad. Once you finish, you shake and wipe it down with a wet wipe and place it back in the bag it is carried in. I used mine for a week on Mt. Rainier and it never smelled. Once I return to civilization, I just washed it. good as new.

I chose this as a way to pee without having to take my backpack off while being roped up on a climb. The other women on the team balked at it, but soon realized the value when they had to pull their pants down to do their business in front of the entire rope team (which included men). worth every penny.

Make sure you do NOT tilt your hips or the funnel while you are using it. You could risk spilling the urine into your pants. the tube is pretty wide but small enough to fit into a water bottle if you are required to do so.

Makes life easier

Review by Matilda, 2010-08-16

So far I have only tried this out at home as instructed to see how to use it. It is easy to use, and I will feel a lot better about going hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing, etc. without having to worry about needing to go to the bathroom. This will make my life easier. We recently went on a camping trip and went canoeing and a short hike, I felt better knowing I had this option if I needed to use it.

Great for Handicapped/Post-Surgery

Review by Hugebooklover, 2010-07-15

A very outdoorsy friend of my suggested this when I had knee surgery a few years ago. I also have very weak thigh muscles (muscular dystrophy), so standing is fine, but getting up from sitting is almost impossible from low seats. You can imagine how worried I was about this before the surgery added to the fun. The Freshette made my recovery (and regular life) waaaaaaaaay easier. I love it! I save a lot of wear and tear on my muscles by not getting up/down for every little pee.
Caveats: as mentioned before, try it out in shower first - if you don't get the angle right - very messy. I didn't use the extra tube much because I didn't need it, and the tip is surprisingly sharp - cut through the ziploc it came with.

Unlike another reviewer, I found tighter pants held the Freshetter up better (I don't bend well) while peeing.

Someone else suggested wearing a pantyliner --excellent bit of advice.

Seated peeing- I tried this ONCE bedside immediately post-surgery. Big mistake! the angle was so different from when standing. I'm sure with practice it would've be fine, but really, what adult wants to have to yell for mommy more than once!

Perfect when in need......

Review by Patricia Lester, 2010-07-04

This was exactly what I was looking for! It's great for hiking, and I even take it on the job site when I'm helping out my hubby. I highly recommend this product.
